I attended an excellent 2-hour seminar this week on Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). I get at least a call a week from someone trying to sell me SEO but I've very suspicious of them. Here are the key points that I picked up from the seminar. These are some of the things that makes your site attractive to Google (and its users) and get you nearer the top of their lists:
1. Get links from other reputable sites but don't have reciprocal links or Google will simply cancel them out.
2. Change your pages regularly
3. Add pages regularly
4. Make your keywords more attractive to Google by underline, bold, H1, H2 etc. tags.
5. Don't remove pages that Google has indexed. It's doesn't like being made to look out of data and will mark you down for this.
6. Put a robots.txt file in your root directory to let Google know what pages not to crawl. Do a search to find out more about this.
I've already implemented changes to our website to help our search engine rankings and I thank ThinkSmart Marketing and NetCallidus for the excellent seminar.
If you have any questions arising from this blog, please contact me unless, of course, you're trying to sell me some SEO!
