Social Networking - The Good, the Bad and the Legal

Even readers who are not part of generations X and Y will be aware of the rise in the last couple of years of social networking websites, or will at least have heard of Facebook, MySpace or YouTube.

Social networking sites use software to build online social networks for communities of people who share interests and activities, or who are interested in exploring the interests of others. They provide a range of ways for individuals to communicate on the site, including chat, messaging, e-mail, video, voice, file sharing etc.

They have been the flavour of the month in the internet world for the last couple of years. The reason? They attract large numbers of loyal users who give all kinds of information about their likes and dislikes which advertisers can use to target each time they visit the site.

The acclaim for such sites as Facebook and MySpace is not universal. Employers feel that employees may abuse the internet access given as part of their job, by "time wasting". Employers also worry about the legal pitfalls they may face in our now "point the finger of blame" society.

This seminar aims to help us understand more about the issues facing companies today. We will hear from all three sides of the fence! There will be plenty of time for questions to the speakers.

The seminar will be of interest to human resources specialists, managing directors, IT directors, finance directors, marketing managers, lawyers and anyone else who wants to be in a better position to help businesses make an informed decision as to their policies on social networking sites.
