500Mbps broadband to the home (in theory)

When 2Mbps broadband became available, I thought it was incredible that old copper cable from BT exchanges could support such high speeds. However, Sagentia consultancy, based in Cambridge has carried out research that shows existing twisted pair copper telephone wires to 99% of the homes in the UK could provide broadband speeds of up to 50Mbps, 95% of homes could reach 100Mbps and half the homes in the United Kingdom could receive nearly 500Mbps. However, the broadband modems would need to be housed in the street cabinets rather than the exchange buildings.
