Companies providing data cabling thought that the main threat to their well-being was coming from wireless networking. However, although some users don't need wired outlets because they are now served by Wireless LAN's, the main threat is now coming from IP Telephony. Whereas two cabling outlets were required for voice and data, just one is required when IP Telephony is adopted. Therefore users not longer need three or more outlets, thus saving money on cabling and network hardware.
