Cabling Standards update

They might be dull but they Standards are an essential part of ensuring a cabling systems does what it's meant to to. Here's an update on two forthcoming important standards:

BS EN 50174-1/-2:2009 nears publication.

This standard related to the installation of temecommunications cabling systems.
A great deal of notice was to paid to the approval by CENELEC of the new versions of BS EN 50174-1 and BS EN 50174-2 in November last year. Unfortunately, a series of completely unconnected delays meant that formal ratification did not take place until May this year - and the final text was not supplied to
BSi until just a few weeks ago. Nevertheless, BSi are gearing up to publish the documents as soon as possible – most probably with a 2008 designation (the year of approval). Work has now begun in CENELEC to revise EN 50174-3 - expected in 2010.

BS 6701:2009 and BIP0007

The next job for UK standards makers is the revision of BS 6701 in order to take account of the improvements and changes in the EN 50174 series. A new craft of 6701 has been created and it is expected to be published as a Draft for Public Comment in September this year.

BIP 0007 which provided a link between the existing BS 6701 and 50174 documents will not be revised because the linkages in the new documents are much more obvious.
